At The Cake Girl, we believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. This holiday season, our annual Fill the Van initiative made a heartfelt impact, bringing joy and hope to over 20 families and Hillsborough County Children Services.
With the support of incredible community members like Entrepreneur and Professional Athlete Chris Frederick, Tampa Attorney Martin Hernandez, and Entrepreneurs Chris and Ashley Casey, we filled our van with toys, sporting equipment, toiletries, blankets, and gift cards. The highlight of this year’s initiative was visiting the homes of families in need, where kids were invited to pick out toys from our festive van. The smiles and excitement were unforgettable.
“We’ve seen such a growing need in our community, and it’s inspiring to see what can be accomplished when people come together,” said Kristina Lavallee, owner of The Cake Girl. “We hope to make an even bigger impact next year.”
This year, Community Activist Michelle Williams played a crucial role in helping us identify families in need. Michelle collected over 800 submissions from families across the Tampa Bay area, many of whom shared stories of challenges brought on by recent storms, layoffs, and economic hardships.
“When I put the post on social media, I was overwhelmed by the response,” said Michelle. “Hearing the stories of so many families in need was heartbreaking, but it also showed just how important initiatives like Fill the Van are.”
In addition to the families we visited, The Cake Girl delivered more than $1,500 worth of toiletries, blankets, sporting equipment, and gift cards to Hillsborough County Children Services, ensuring even more children could feel the joy of the holiday season.
Giving back is at the heart of The Cake Girl. Throughout the year, our Random Acts of Sweetness initiative allows us to surprise first responders, at-risk children, and community members with sweet treats and moments of kindness. Fill the Van is one of our favorite traditions, as it brings together our team, supporters, and the community to make a lasting difference.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s Fill the Van a success,” said Kristina. “Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces reminds us why we do this, and we can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Thank you to all who contributed to this year’s initiative. Together, we’re making the holidays brighter for families in need and showing that kindness and community can truly make a difference.
