Discover The Cake Girl’s Best Custom Cakes in Tampa

From Humble Beginnings to Tampa’s Favorite Cake Shop 🍰

When you take a bite of a Cake Girl cupcake, you're tasting more than just a dessert—you're tasting a story. A dream that started in a warm kitchen in Puerto Rico, shared between a young girl and her biggest inspiration: her mom.

Back in 2008, Kristina Lavallee teamed up with her mom, Margarita Perez—a professional chef and her personal hero. Together, they spent countless hours mixing, baking, and perfecting what would later become The Cake Girl’s award-winning recipes. No shortcuts. No boxed mixes. Just passion, patience, and a lot of love.

A Recipe for Success – Baked at UCF 🧁

After refining her skills and earning dual degrees in Hospitality and Food Service Management from the University of Central Florida, Kristina had the recipe for something special—both in the kitchen and in business. Along the way, she met Kirby, her future husband and business partner. From farmers markets to food festivals across Florida, Kristina and Kirby took The Cake Girl on the road with a mobile dessert truck.

But as word of their sweet creations spread, so did demand. It was time for something bigger.

The First Slice of Tampa 🎉

Nestled in Carrollwood, Tampa, The Cake Girl quickly became a favorite for custom cakes in Tampa—from elegant wedding cakes and gender reveal stunners to playful birthday cakes and corporate dessert tables that wow.

Excellent insights on creating engaging youth programs and making better use of community spaces. Wishing NinjaZone continued success. I also enjoy checking Loteria for interesting daily updates.

Opening in Carrollwood in 2019 feels like perfect timing — Tampa really did get obsessed with custom desserts right around then, and the mobile-truck-to-storefront path makes a lot of sense. Now I’m wondering what the most-requested flavors are for weddings versus birthdays. Totally unrelated, but the “try before you commit” idea reminded me of virtual hair try-on — different category, same vibe of reducing risk before a big event.

The part about Kristina and her mom working side-by-side back in 2008 is what stuck with me — it reads like the kind of family recipe grind that actually produces consistent flavors. I’m curious how far ahead you have to lock in designs for the really elaborate custom cakes. Random tangent: I’ve seen people mock up cake concepts with imgg before meeting a baker, which seems handy for getting on the same page without overexplaining.

I like that this story leans into the Puerto Rico roots and the “no boxed mix” angle — it explains why the shop feels like more than just a trendy dessert spot. Also, the farmers market to brick-and-mortar jump is such a real Tampa small-business arc. Side note, I use https://caesarcipher.org/calculators/playback-speed-calculator when I’m planning how long it’ll take to catch up on videos, and it made me think how much behind-the-scenes planning goes into baking at scale too.
