Our Story

It all began back in 2009 when owner, Kristina Lavallee, followed her heart and started her own business.

Every good recipe has a story- here is ours:

Since she was a young girl growing up in Puerto Rico she always had a passion for gourmet sweets. She would beg her parents to take her to the grocery store, just so she could see the cakes and baked goods. As a young girl she gained a lot of experience in the kitchen while working side by side with her mother, Margarita Perez, who is a Chef and caterer. Her mother taught her to cook with love and always use the highest quality of ingredients. Probably the best lesson she was taught as a child was to always do the right thing, give A+ customer service and treat people like family, which is the culture at The Cake Girl.

She moved to Orlando, FL when she was 15 years old and her passion continued. She graduated high school in 2005 and went on to continue her education at the University of Central Florida Rosen College of Hospitality Management where she obtained two bachelor degrees in Hospitality Management and Food Service & Restaurant Management. After walking across the stage at UCF, armed with the highest quality of training and experience, she started working in the baking and pastry field. She has worked in small local bakeries, custom high-end bakeries, and also a wholesale bakery – which produced a high volume of baked goods for national chains. After gaining experience in these environments, she knew that she wanted to follow her dreams of having her own business. She got married and moved to Tampa, FL with her husband Kirby.

From the moment she settled down in Tampa she began attending farmers markets, special events, and corporate parties – all of which featured her delectable goodies. The support from the community was remarkable and The Cake Girl took the business on the road, with the addition of a dessert truck. Many miles later and thousands of cupcakes sold she followed her passion and opened her very first brick and mortar location in Tampa, FL in June 2019!

Kristina and Kirby are entrepreneurs and are focused on making The Cake Girl a national brand.   Their motivation is and always has been to make people smile! When people try our delicious sweets they are happy and the memories they create are meaningful, that is why we exist!
